What's been happening at Kerby
Bell Let's Talk Day
We had a successful Bell Let’s Talk day! Mental health is important at any age, but as you get older, it’s harder to make a connection. One of the best ways to stay connected as a senior is to take advantage of Unison’s Active Aging activities and our Wellness Connection programs.
Robert Burns Day Luncheon
A successful Robert Burns Day filled with entertainment by St. Andrew (Caledonian Society of Calgary), delicious food by Kerby Café and special volunteer guest Greg McLean MP!
Unison Staff Retreat
We had an awesome time at our Staff Retreat last week! With all our Calgary and Medicine Hat employees together, we had the chance to connect, reflect and learn to be a better team for the seniors in our community.
Volunteer spotlight

Meet Carlos Zavala
For this month we are excited to feature our very dedicated and generous volunteer, Carlos Zavala. Carlos started volunteering in October of 2021. He has remained as a volunteer in the kitchen of Kerby Café for the entirety of his time here. He said he first came to Kerby four years ago wanting to learn about computers.
Carlos let us know why he keeps coming back to volunteer; “I am happy with the work I am doing.” Regarding being at Kerby in general, he stated, “I enjoy working with the people around me in the centre.” Something that always makes him smile is serving the Café customers.
Carlos really enjoys playing hockey and basketball in his spare time with his sons.
So far, Carlos has contributed over 599 hours.
Thank-you, Carlos, for all you do for the Kerby Centre!
